Perception is
Everything
How we perceive something will directly impact our emotional and behavioral responses. Learning to understand the process of perception will offer ongoing opportunities for an individual to enact change in his or her life. In my private practice, I draw from my intensive training in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to teach these fundamental skills to clients and help them to achieve their goals.

CBT
By learning to understand how an individual thinks, draws conclusions, problem solves, and perceives interactions with others, one can better understand his or her emotional reactions and behaviors – giving clients an opportunity to learn how to create change in their lives through changing their thinking. It is an active form of treatment, incorporating learning and skill practice often in the form of “homework” assignments. It can be utilized for individual therapy, groups, and within couples work to explore thought patterns, expectations, sources of conflict, and communication barriers.

DBT
DBT incorporates concepts of dialectical strategies, validation, and acceptance to affect change and improve daily functioning. It was created by Marsha M. Linehan, Ph.D in the 1970s and has been highly successful in helping individuals with severe emotional dysregulation learn to manage their emotions and take control of their lives. Since its inception the treatment has expanded and is widely used for a broad array of mental health disorders. I am utilizing the research backed treatment for an even larger population of clients and teaching clients the fundamental skills that are beneficial for EVERYONE looking to make a change in their life, reach a goal, or learn to live a happier existence.
